Hi. I’m planning on moving to San Francisco and I’m trying to figure out the cost for everything and to see what kind of apartment I can afford. Here are my calculations:

Salary: k/year (66/month)
Income tax ~30%? = 46 take-home?

Living expenses per month:
Food 0 – Some cooking at home. Lunches at work/eating out
Clothes 0
Care products – hair etc.
Transport – Bart/caltrain
Entertainment 0 – movies/bowling etc.
Impulse – sodas etc.
Insurance 0 – Medical, home
Household 0 – Cleaning supplies etc.
Subscriptions – Netflix etc.
Phone
Internet – hopefully 50-100 mbit
Gifts etc

– Total: 30. Somewhat correct? What have I missed?

Apartment per month:
Rent 00 for 1BR not too far from downtown. (This is the goal. Unfortunately I have a very high standard of living)
Utilities 0 – Water + electric?
Possible pet rent 0

– Total: 00.

– Left to save: ~0.

Some notes:
- I will have k saved up for furniture and down payment / other fees.
- I know, people say that you shouldn’t spend more than 50% of your take-home on rent, but I’d like to hear what you have to say
- k/year is my minimum to actually move. But I’m aiming for close to a 0k.

He needs help with medication reminders, housecleaning, bathing, dressing, etc. Is there a website that would help me with learning about in home care costs and insurance if available to him and what he’s qualified for? I read somewhere that there are people who specialize in providing this type of information since there’s so much and I don’t know where to begin. Help! It’s also very hard for me to help him because I live in another state. He is in the San Francisco bay area.

Hi. I currently live in San Francisco to go to school, and in a few days, I’d leave to drive home to Los Angeles for my winter break.

So my car’s insurance card expired a few days ago, and there isn’t enough time for my father to send me the new (valid) insurance card and for me to receive it before I leave. (So when I drive the 400+ miles home, I won’t have a valid auto insurance card on me, though my coverage would be active & paid for.)

(For some reason) I know that in other states, if you get pulled over and don’t have a valid proof of car insurance when asked by the law enforcer, that you can get your license revoked/suspended and/or car impounded & it’s a nasty hole in your wallet.

Is there any way I can temporarily get around the California law?

We are purchasing our second home while we maintain the first one as a rental property. The home we are purchasing is 5,000 and was built in 1974. A simple search of real estate listings in our city shows that a new home in a nicer neighborhood (much larger, actually) can be purchased for 229,000 or less.

So far, all the home insurance companies are giving me quotes with a replacement value for my home ranging from 229k-249k. How is it possible that replacement costs for my older home could higher than purchasing a brand new home with more square footage in a better neighborhood? Is there a method of disputing these findings?

If these companies are a true Capitalist business with real competition instead of Monopolies. Then they should be fighting for my business. Shouldn’t they?

Why is my Government putting a gun to my head and saying you have to buy this crap. These businesses should be ashamed of themselves. They only want people who pay them big bucks.

This smells like a freaking Monopoly to me. If these insurance companies are using legislation to get my business then they just don’t have enough competition.

If the Government allowed me. I would start my own insurance company and take every single one of their customers and put them all out of business. Too bad we don’t live in a free society that would allow me to open a small business and put these frackers out to dry.
Well nobody wants it cause its too expensive and they never wanna pay for nothing when you get sick. That is why no one wants it. That is why making people buy it won’t help.
